Odd eye chocolate? Empty Odd eye chocolate?

Post by tinyhartmouseries Sun Feb 05, 2012 5:05 am

One of my new babies has an eye that shines ruby. The other appears black. I believe I have what I think is an odd eye. This baby is pied chocolate. Please explain, genetically, how this is possible. I did not expect it because the mother has no odd eye period in her line.

From what I've been hearing, odd eyed isn't genetic and it's just random based on spotting genes *shrug*

Yeah odd-eye is pretty random. Ruby eyes are very common in chocolates, so it's no surprise you'd find some, but odd-eye is quite random.

Even Moustress, who breeds odd-eye all the time, doesn't get them every time in odd-eye x odd-eye pairings. And when she does, it's usually only one mouse in the whole litter. Hmm.

I get them all the time in varying degrees, especially in my Splashes.

Well, I think this one is for Mouselover, if I can get a darn decent pic, lol.
They are interesting but for the varieties I breed, I don't want that to sneak in, lol.

Lol. Was not asking for her. Lol I am reserving plenty of mice as it is. :-)

I actually have a cat who has two different collored eyes. She is a torti.

It suspect that it is recessive in tri/splashed mousies, and subordinate to some other factor/s. Spotting is a possibility, but that doesn't explain my splashed blue doe, Oddy Doddy.

HEY! Here's a thought. I wonder if odd-eye is common in mice that are pied and hiding splashed because they have no c-dilutes?

Now there's a thought. Moustress? You have a lot of odd-eye, are most splashed? Pied? Self? Any patterns at all?

That is good...this baby's dad hid splashed, and so his daughter must? Interesting idea Rhas...

Without further ado, I finally got a good pic of the boy! The flash shows his odd eye very well! Look at his monsterously broad head! Happy

He is a tan! He has a good medium tan belly, and it's where the small white spots are. Maybe I can get another pic in a week, lol. Run away!

I am so glad you like him!!! He is a good boy!

They aren't shown as odd-eye, but in the UMC it is permissible to show a mouse which can be shown in 'any colour eye' in odd-eye. Happy
