Um, don't feed them potato peels... To summarize, it's toxic and kills them. : /

I learned that this week; I'd only read the bits about the iceberg lettuce causing diarehha, and didn't think to specifically look up on potatoes, and so now I'm minus a gp.

Frizzle!!! I am soooo sorry!!!! Sad

G. Pigs need vit c suplements specificaly designed for them. They are prone to scurvy. The liquid vit c drops can be purchased in any pet store.

I found something here http://www.guinea-pig-information.co.uk/guinea-pig-health.php

"Other things that guinea pig owners worry about, but which are quite common and not too serious, are sticky bottom in boars and a build up of waxy material around the 'grease spot' of guinea pigs of both sexes. If this waxy build up on the grease spot becomes excessive, it can be removed using a solvent cleaner designed for use on human skin, such as the stuff used to remove bandaid type plasters available from pharmacies or even Swarfega hand gel. A gentle wash in mild soapy water and then rinsing to remove any residue is recommended."

So sorry for your loss Frizzle. That is a horrible way to learn something is toxic when all you were doing was being well-intentioned for your pig Sad

I had guinea pigs several years ago and am just getting back into owning them now.

Regarding feeding vitamin C supplements- I don't believe it's necessary to do this if you're feeding a 75% leafy green vegetable, 25% timothy hay pellet diet. I feed a large salad mix every day and everybody is happy!

Liquid vitamin C isn't the best since some guinea pigs will refuse to drink their water if they taste something different in there.
