I know chinchilla is genetically cch/cch. Is there a way to reproduce the chinchilla gene without having a chinchilla mouse?

Not having the gene cch at all? Or not having a chinchilla mouse, per se?

Lol. I would like to make a chinchilla mouse. I do not have the variety or the gene. Is there a way to recreate it? I know- I am confusing myself!

You can make a chinchilla like mouse using beige brindles, and also the silvered gene. But neither is reliable. I believe Elena is getting some Chinchilla mice in the near future.

You can also make a chinhilla like mouse using merle and roan.

Do you have any Mock Chocolates? A long, hard way may be to work cch into Tan via a Mock Chocolate. You could breed one of the offspring back to the Mock Chocolate until you got a Fox, then cross a Fox to an Agouti? I think? Laughing

There's a male mouse at the pet shop where I work who might be chinchilla-- or he might just be silver. I can't tell, I just think he's cute xD We so rarely get colored mice (which is why my first two girls were PEWs). I could get a picture because I'm kind of curious about his color myself tbh.

We actually just got in ANOTHER male silver/chinchilla/something gray Wednesday... so now there are two! Big smile I will try to sneak some shots of them tomorrow. The older one is a bit jumpy though because he got picked on, so he's by himself now.

The first silver boy. He seems to have very light white shading on his tummy, which is cute, and a dark tail.

The second silver boy, who was very jumpy.

And a fluffy black boy who also is new! He has a cute white tip on his tail and white toes. Adorable.

We so rarely get in anything other than PEW so I am always excited to see colored ones. So I'm sorry to hijack this thread with these pictures.

I'm TRYING to get chins. I have someone who said they'd ship me some from Cali. Waiting to hear back from them.

Then there is someone near me who claims to have them, but they never get back to me. then they do 2 months later, then they ignore my emails longer, etc. They won't answer texts or emails. It's getting quite annoying.

So yeah, I hope to get some, but I'm still looking for someone reliable.

Yay! They are chins after all. I guess you never know every once in a while a pet store may get in something special. Happy

The black one was so calm and sweet. I hope he gets a home as a pet too. I do try, I mention mice every time a kid comes in for a hamster, but the moms always complain about the tails. A little boy always comes in and asks to see "Sonic" which is what he calls the older chin. But his mom hates the mousey tail.
