What do you get if you cross...

Not planning on breeding my mice as im not sure of their lineage , but just interested in their genetics. Just genotypes are fine. So what do you get if you cross...

Black X White
Black X Brindle
Black X Recessive Yellow (fawn)
Argente X White
Argente X Brindle
Argente X Resessive Yellow (fawn)

I can answer a few of these, but a lot of it depends on the recessive genes in each mouse. So I can help a bit but expect some wild cards!

Black and brindle will give you 50% brindle and 50% black, UNLESS the brindle has two copies of the brindle gene, in which case you will get all brindle.

If the black mouse doesn't carry Recessive Yellow, you will get no recessive yellows. That's all I can predict. All will be black eyed.

Argente and white (pink eyes?) will give you mostly argente, I would think, because Argente is Agouti with a pink eye dilution, and Agouti is a dominant color.

Argente and Fawn would give you mostly agoutis.

Argente and brindle is actually quite interesting. You will get mostly brindles, because brindle is dominant over the agouti gene. If both mice have a recessive non-agouti gene (black, let's say) then you could get a bunch of black babies too.

Again, this is just speculation. You could have any number of interesting recessive that would express themselves.

Thanks for your help! I am super interested in genetics so this is awesome. I am contemplating whether or not to breed. They are pet store mice, and I have a problem with not knowing about their lines. On the other hand, It would be interesting to explore the dominant and recessive genes in mice and I have a number good homes already asking for mice if I am going to breed. Any suggestions?

Be wary of this. Not trying to discourage you from breeding at all, but I do want to say that I have the same thing from people- yet when I actually have the litter, finding homes is like pulling teeth because people suddenly become "too busy" for a pet. I don't know why some people get a kick out of saying they want an animal and then deciding they don't once said animal is on hold for them. Grrr..

I know how that is... "Oh I want a rabbit...never mind." grrr. Anyways, I have a whole 4-H club who want mice so hopefully they wont back out. And thanks for telling me that, I want to know everything before I decide to breed for real.

Fawn is not recessive yellow- entirely different genetical makeup. Lol . . About to lose service on the train. I will respond to your questions a bit later. :-)
