First precious blue babies.
I had two pregnant does this morning and only one this evening.
I went upstairs and was greeted by much unexpected feeble mewling sounds.
You guys know the ones. This little was the result of pairing my Alice (blue standard pet typed doe)
to a lovely, typey , blue tan buck from m137b. I had him paired with a few does, some pet typed and some better.
Alice is the first one to deliver and much earlier than expected. So that left her in a tank of females.
When I found them , there were only two living, and I found three dead with serious maiming.
That makes these two that much more special, and in addition to that these guys represent a huge milestone for me.
They are the first blues I bred myself, something I've been working towards this entire last year.
They are the first real typy mice born here, and they are the first babies after a house fire wiped most of my mice out.
Here are my two treasures, you can't see it clearly in the picture but they already have pigmentation developing :3

Congrats on the baby mice! Sorry to here that all did not survive. At least you have two healthy pups left.
Re: First precious blue babies.
Sorry to hear about losing some of the babies. I hate it when they surprise you much sooner than expected! These two look good though! They are definitely eating well!

Re: First precious blue babies.
I am very happy to have just the two, and they are little piggies.
The three I did find all had milk bands but the one male was really...fetal.
I think he died on his own to be honest. You'll get more pictures as soon as I can rationalize posting more

Grandmeece for you too,lol.
I always thought that term was a little silly but who cares?
I have another litter on the way any day now from the same male.

Re: First precious blue babies.
blue bell had her babies just now, I actually saw her eat a few of the placentas. I got a mixed bag...which was not expected.
The breeding was Bluebell(standard, pet typed blue satin)X
Phoenix(typy blue tan angora) I expected all blue babies, and a few tans. But it looks like half this litter has pink eyes. I know the pedigree a few generations back, No silvers or doves. Lurker genes?
I have had the same male paired up with a few typy blues so maybe we will have more litters soon. So exciting.

Re: First precious blue babies.
As soon as I get home to where my camera is tomorrow!
I rechecked just a little while ago, before I was peeking in through the cage which sits on my night table. It seems I did catch her in the middle of delivering, as 6 babies almost doubled into 11.
4 bucks, 7 does. 4 have pink eyes. Only one noticeable runt too.
I think what I'm going to do is take out the runt, and foster a few of these over to Alice who only has the two of her own. I really wan to keep most of these guys to get my numbers up again. I feel weird about fostering them this time though. Should I reduce the litter more by than one? Counting the adults of breeding age I have...5 now. Better than 3 but not nearly sustainable. sorry for rambling, I swear I'll have pictures first thing tomorrow afternoon, of both litters.

Re: First precious blue babies.
Thank you, I'm glad too.
I have to keep reminding myself that those two are only 6 days old.
Maybe it's the show typed father coming through?
I've never had babies get that big, that fast.
I love it either way. Your guys (I was looking at your thread a few minutes ago) are looking quite fat and happy too. <3
