Hi from Sydney, Australia
Hello mouse fans! I see some familiar names here.
I'm from Sydney, Australia. We are rodent challenged in this country due to import restrictions, so we mouse fanciers have a huge task ahead of us in breeding good quality mice from what are essentially pet shop quality animals. It's going to take time and commitment, and rigorous breeding practices, to achieve progress, particularly with the limited gene pool available to work with.
On the plus side we have some varieties which are quite spectacular, such as long hair mice (specific gene not clearly identified).
We don't have a strong mouse fancy here, as such, but there are a handful of good breeders that keep the standards and professionalism going. I envy the European countries and the US for the mouse communities, and the progress that had been made over many years in type and variety.
I joined a US forum a few years ago, but it was very scary and I was criticised and shamed. I didn't stay long. More recently I joined a UK forum which I love. This forum looks like a chatty, friendly group of people who share a genuine love of all things mus musculus.. so here I am - ready to chat!
