How many mice do you have?

I have 60 adults and a couple dozen youngin's and newborns. I usually keep under 100, though when I broke my knee I had about 200. I've been wanting to stay around 50-60, minus babies since I've focused more intently on my 3 main projects. I get to spend quality time with them all that way! Which makes me feel a heck of a lot better.

Lesee, I've got a bunch of mice in the house that either aren't mine, or are on their way out (either to other breeders or as feeders), but lemme see.

I've got five bucks of my own (Pumpkin, Yucca, Cranberry, Milton Keynes, and Fluffbutt), fourteen adult does still breeding (Kahlua, Bailey, Malibu, her unnamed sister, Cumin, Ahipa, Sussex, Essex, Bristol, Scilly, the new silver tan doe, the two new Siamese does, and quite possibly that mock chocolate texel doe), one adult doe retiree (Vodka), one pet doe (Nicole's pew) and five breeder doe pups still growing up. That makes 26 permanent residents at the moment.

There's also five pet/feeder pups and two young breeding bucks that are getting sent out, for a total of 33 mice bred here and currently residing here. Of course, that's nothing to speak of all the mice headed for a plane ride or a meetup who WEREN'T bred here, but that's how low the number of mice in the house has gotten in preparation for expanding the tan line with the imported mice.

Ya'll got me curious so I went and counted. Right now, as of 10 minutes ago, I have 182 adults and 8 litters under a week old with one more on the way.

@doganddisc: I completely agree! My only snag is an unknown living situation. I just moved from my apartment to my parents' house which was originally temporary, but then my sister decided she wants to move out so I'll have the whole place to myself. And then! My parents, who wanted a place to stay (they don't live in the city) are back and forth about selling it within the next few months. Which would catapult me back into an apartment. I think my future with breeding may entirely depend on this, as it's terribly expensive to afford anything beyond a one bedroom in this city. So I guess I won't be picking up the PEW longhaired next week. Three cages is the max for an apartment I think! (personal max, haha)

Probably around 24--oh! Just adopted three--ones I'd bred adopted back. (My A #1 mouse sitter suddenly developed an allergy to mice after having them for more than two years.) Well, just under 30.

Wow...I thought I had a lot...at just over 35...but I see I am really an amateur. I am guessing everyone with the big numbers are breeders...since your answers all included litters / newborn / babies.

I hit a hundred a week or so ago. I never thought I would. But a good dozen or more are not staying, possibly two dozen, as one of my double-litters turned out to have been fathered by the wrong buck (how? no clue), meaning I've got 13 out of 18 that are utterly useless.
