Siamese Litters *Update 6/30*

Post by thewesterngate on Tue Jun 05, 2012 4:09 am

I have three, so why not start a new topic? Two are SH, one is LH. I can only differentiate between the SH by one's terrible molt patch! I do need to pick out names.

Protective mommy and nest. This one looks like a blue point. She's with the silver tan buck, but I don't know if he's the father.

5/29/12 - Cup o' babies. Two sets of dark eyes in the group. I had 9 but can only count 8 here, so mom may have culled one.

6/2/12 - Slightly more interesting.

I think I snapped an all-girl picture, but I never make proper notes for myself.

6/4/12 - I love this group, so much variety.

Thoughts on colors?

Next is my patchy girl, 8 babies born on 5/25.

5/29/12

5/31/12

6/2/12

6/4/12 - Their coats are looking oddly textured. Is it grease or..?

(This little turd kept climbing the basket side repeatedly! Eyes not even open yet. Cute little pain in the butt! I guess his name is Problem Child.)

Boy and girl, the boy is looking a little runty..or his sister is a pig. Pardon the tail holding, they wouldn't keep still.

AND FINALLY. The last litter from the LH Siamese, who came housed with the LH Black Tan. Not sure who the actual father is. Litter of 8 born on 5/29.

6/2/12

(Girls.)

6/4/12 - This group is interesting too! I think 3 black, 2 PEW, 2 Dove, 1 Blue?

(I like these babes.)

*Passes out.*

Thanks! I'm very curious about the two mixed groups. I see all kinds of shades I haven't before. Possibly blues, silvers, maybe even champagnes. Happy

Very Pretty!
In the first group, I see a lot of RY and dusty RY, as well as the black and PEW.
As far as the texture, if their little coats are greasy, it's indicative of a genetic condition similar to "failure to thrive". The babies may not make it and might need to be culled. I am sorry!

The last handful of mice looks to contain some c-dilute blacks, perhaps two coffees, a blue, and lilac?

This is a recent picture, better shot of the (probable) father and two offspring that seem to resemble him. Also shows the lightly hooded bub in there.

Ooh, furry squashy babies. They look like some kind of a pink-eyed beigey color. Maybe champagne, maybe something darker.

*Updated*

Post by thewesterngate on Sun Jun 10, 2012 2:03 am

I finally have updates! Lots of open-eyed fleas. Happy

Litter #1: greasy little buggers! A different litter was the same but outgrew it, I think it's the mom's diet that's a little too oily.

A silver tan, just like the sire! I like it. Happy

Probably just a sooty RY but looks very interesting.

Some dark spots in this one's hood.

UPDATE: 6/30/12 - 5 weeks old
I love these little RY babies. First two are male and female, second is the sooty black-eyed RY baby. I want to say they're angora, I love it!

Litter #2:

This one's ears are super tan on the inside, kind of cute.

This one has some points coming in!

UPDATE: 6/30/12 - 5 weeks old
Little black and white pied buck with tan areas. Precious.

I like this shot, hehe.

Little dove buck, angora as well.

Litter #3: Mostly black tans, a blue and beiges (I think).

Little pied baby.

UPDATE: 6/30/12 - 5 weeks old
I love this little blue girl, even if she's been a bit of a struggle to catch up to her siblings.

I love seeing all these varieties grow up! I believe I have "just a sooty RY" as well but man, what a beautiful mouse all the same.

Watch out with those greasy babies! If they start to poo liquid, you might have E coli on your hands.

Yipe, I knew I heard that somewhere. I think the poo is OK, but I have seen some in a different bin. I guess I just need to keep the bins extra clean?

Quick update: crisis averted with the E coli scare. It most likely was, but they've perked up. Also, the 'sooty RY' actually has black eyes. Would that make it a poor red?

RY can have black or red eyes. If you're in the states, it isn't red.

Cute as a button babies though! Glad the E.coli scare turned into nothing!

I hope this isn't too off topic but has anyone ever bred their sooty RY's? I wasn't sure if it's a faux pas. I'm really tempted to see what happens but thought I'd save myself/the mouse the effort and simply ask those who have them. Happy

I could be wrong, but I believe if you keep breeding sooty RY to sooty RY, you'll eventually end up with a reddish color.

The sooties usually clear up at around 4 months of age. if you are breeding for RY, you'd want to breed the clearest to the clearest, or use chocolate. I had them pop up in my black tan line and they were fine for a while, but after a few gens stayed sooty at the 4 month point.

Yeah, I have a sooty RY baby from a pet store litter who stayed sooty. I'll add photos of him if I think of it.

Thanks everyone! I don't mean to stray from the beautiful babies (keep updating photos!) but due to my girl's large lovely eyes, was thinking of selecting her to breed. The buck is beige, though, so it may be a wait and see for another pet store buck. :/ RY doesn't seem hard to come by when there are mice available.

No trouble, I think it'd be fun to work with generations of sooty little RY and see if the color can improve. tongue To me, starting from scratch sounds fun.
