Here are Tuxton (buck, front) and Rexina (doe, back), littermates.

They are both blue foxes, but there are differences. For one, Rexina is rex, so her fur is kind of wavy, but her color is also deeper. Is this because Tuxton is agouti?

I must say that I was breeding for Rexina's color, but I find Tuxton's very handsome, also.

AND A QUESTION: Look at Rexina's belly. Is she splashed?

Blue can actually come in different shades. I have had two lines of blue in the past- 2 different shades. Also- Tuxton does look ticked to me. Maybe he is chinchillated? Or is it just the camera making him seem so? Could be agouti.

Hmmm. I do not see splashed. Maybe just inconsistant color on the Fox belly

I think one looks chinchillated. Blue agouti is usually a more solid colour, with strange brown shading. Happy

Chinchillation affects top color on blue foxes? Given that blue and black are the same pigments in differing distribution, how is this? I understand that chinchilla affects black just enough to make it a sort of just-barely-off-black color, but the differences in shading in blues should be enough to make this unnoticeable. The doe looks to have a poor fox belly, such that you're seeing her top color as an undercoat. That is, unless there's some tan splashing that I'm not seeing in the photos. I've got a black tan with the same problem, and having trouble breeding it out. I may just separate the individual from the line. Both look mealy, to me, which is a perfectly normal fault of blues.

Some clarification. Both tan and fox are caused by a^t. a^t/* C/* mice are tans and a^t/* c-dilute mice are foxes. Both of these blue foxes are c^ch/c^ch, or chinchillated.

Thanks for the comments that Tuxton does look ticked. He looks ticked to me, too. That means he's agouti under the d/d c^ch/c^ch.

And thanks for saying Rexina's tum looks like it could be splashed. I guess I'll find out for sure when I breed her.

Both Tuxton and Rexina carry the possibility of tumors, so they're not my first choices, but nobody seems to have any c^ch/c^ch available. It's OK in this instance because the line I'm crossing them into also carries the same possibility of tumors, but for breeding c^ch into the entire Brindle Empire, I am still in search of c^ch/c^ch.
