Re: Rodent fest April 28th!
Thanks!!! I am so going!!! . Will they allow a dog to enter the show? Lol.
Re: Rodent fest April 28th!
no, they definitely would not allow a dog to enter...lol If you went in the morning you probably wouldn't even be able to physically get him in without him getting trampled anyway...lol It is PACKED to the brim in the morning....seriously....

Yeah, they don't allow pets at all.
Oh also, there are always people there selling live feeder rodents and such....so if you do go to the reptile show, either stay clear of the rodents or go after going to RF.

I will stand very clear of the rodents. I am looking for a few specifics anyway - not rodent wise. Lol I will pm you so I do not hijack this post.
Looking forward to meeting you Julee!

GEEZE! The danger of cross-contamination!!!!!!!
Re: Rodent fest April 28th!
there's only a danger if you handle any of the rodents/rodent stuff....you can't carry airborne pathogens on you, and if you don't touch anything you can't pick up the non-airborne pathogens.
Also a note for RF'ers....there will probably be people from the reptile show who head down to check out RF.....who MAY have handled rodents at the reptile show!! So be aware of that!!! Don't let any strangers touch any of your animals without at least hand sanitizing if at all!

Couldn't they have picked a better weekend? LOL
I finally remembered to take off, now hope they give it to me. I'm taking off the whole weekend (fri-sun) so I don't have to rush home that night for work on Sunday!

I suggest that everyone bring hand sanitizer as a general rule for their table!
I keep it on mine, and ask that everyone use it before handling mice. I also try to show people mice in my hands, rather than give them to them, or let them grab mice from my cages.
Most of my mice are reserved already though, so I only have to hand them to one person hopefully!

No, no! I spray bedding for the trip up and again when I've gotten whatever mice I'm toting back home in their fresh bedding. I treat each mouse separately once i get home.
I think Bath and Body Works has their hand sanitizer gel and lotions on sale right now. I'm going to try to pick some up. My hands are so dry by the end of the fest from all the hand sanitizer, that they sometimes crack and bleed. They aren't so harsh and I'll swap back and forth between regular sanitizer and the fancy stuff.

Stina wrote:A note for anyone interested.....just 15 min or so up the road from RF the same day, there is a reptile show going on in Hamburg!! www.hamburgreptileshow.com
It's from 9am to 4pm...though a lot vendors start packing up after 1 or so. If you decide to go and want to go in the morning....unless you want to get there at 8:30 and stand in like for a half hour....or 9 and stand in line for even longer, you'll want to wait till 10 or so probably...maybe even closer to 11 to avoid having to wait in line to get in. They have an $8 admission...but if you like reptiles its totally worth it! Its mostly just people selling things, but there are always all kinds of interesting things to see! Everything from venemous snakes, to leopard geckos, to turtles, to tarantulas, to frogs and salamanders, to crabs, to alligators!
It's a fun show and a great way to get cheap aspen, mealworms, block food, and other goodies! I always by aspen at reptile shows when I can. It's very cheap and since I have both rodent/small animal cages AND snakes..I go through a TON of aspen! Mealworms and other insects are dirt cheap too. I remember some people were talking about starting mealworm colonies, this would be the place to get them.
The show is definatly crowded and no pets are allowed...but it is fun and interesting. This time of year there will probably also be baby chicks and ducklings for sale as well!
