Unexpected Splashed Texel Litter!
So, one of the mice I brought back from Ohio was a mock chocolate based splashed fox texel doe who'd been marked for Emma, but may have been included accidentally. Either way, she's lovely and now has a home here. I'd put her together with the siamese-based splashed fox texel that I'd gotten from Nicole, and noticed yesterday that her belly was growing larger.
Today, I went to check in on her, and she was standing over a litter of six! They look fairly new, but all have milk bellies. I haven't sexed them yet, so I may well have to cull down.
She was picked up two weeks ago this past Tuesday, so she had to be pregnant when we got her, but I'm not concerned. I just wasn't expecting babies quite so quickly.
I'll post photos when the color up. In the mean time, I guess I get to do some quick genetics guessing to figure out which c-dilute combinations to expect! Some are pink-eyed like their uncle, and some are black-eyed like their mum.
Also, I guess this explains why she wasn't getting along well with the other does. She didn't want them in her nursery.

Re: Unexpected Splashed Texel Litter!
That'd be the little girl that you got from me. I gave Emma a heads up that she might be preggers because I had to keep her with her brothers until they were ready to go due to lack of space(long story...).
The daddy was most likely your boy since he was the biggest of the boys and tended to be the dominant one of the group.
Hopefully everything goes okay with them! Keep me posted!

I culled out two definite bucks today, one black eyed, and one pink eyed. These pink eyes are a little darker than the ones I'm used to, but we'll see. I'm fairly certain there's another buck in there, but I'd rather not cull her litter below four if I can help it. Thus far, they're doing great!

They could be ruby-eyed or even odd-eyed if/since they are Splashed. I get those a lot, so I take a little more care when culling Splashed/Tri litters in the beginning.

A good point. Dad's not pied, but Mom has some spotting on her tail. We'll see when they start to color up, I guess. Also, I decided to name them following the theme of the rest of the Siamese and Longhair group, he's Seltzer and she's Bourbon. Probably shouldn't mix, but it's drinkable when you do. :/

How very interesting! I came back from a day away, to find that the pups had grown. We've got one all-pink, two all-grey, and one with a big splotch of black, mostly grey, and several splotches of white. So there's that. I'll try and get outdoor photos during cleanout day tomorrow.

Re: Unexpected Splashed Texel Litter!
Just an FYI, the parents are from my Tri Texel buck, so there might very well be some Tri in there.
Re: Unexpected Splashed Texel Litter!
Bwaha! And they're about to fur up. I'm not enthused with the amount of dandruff that's causing, or their actual weights, but, then, her pregnancy did involve rather a bit of driving around and getting moved from bin to bin.
The tri baby:
The less-splashy baby:
The more-splashy baby:
And the pale baby, who seems to be splashing up around the rump?:
Given the pink-eyed baby, I'm guessing that Bourbon's actually burmese-based? It's splashing up, which indicates it's not simply a pink-eyed c-dilute, but actually Siamese, like Seltzer. In that case, Bourbon has to have one ch, even though I guess I just assumed the minimally darker bit on her nose was a splash. The other option, I guess, would be pied something. We'll see. The tri baby seems to have the best weight of the four, though mum's getting plenty of kibble to go with her food. They've all got the curly whiskers, so it's going to be a litter of sheep.

It's okay. I had asked you about her, but maybe you were confused... the tri is a doe. The four remaining are all does.

Re: Unexpected Splashed Texel Litter!
All of my Splash are Siamese-based, including the Texel boy and Angora girl you have.
I'm SOOOOO freaking jealous of the Tri doe! I've been trying to get a halfway decent Tri for ages and can't seem to get any good patches on a doe, it's always the boys that have nice patches and the girls are always splashy. :/ That baby's going to be a looker! Pity it's a Texel, but since it's a doe her fur will probably straighten out a shorten up a bit with age and allow the Tri-color to show better once she's older.
Congrats on the babies! I hope they all fatten up for you soon. You'll love when they hit the fluff-ball stage. <3

Re: Unexpected Splashed Texel Litter!
She is really really really dark for a siamese, with mostly chocolate, a big black splotch, and black eyes. I'll try to remember to catch a photo tomorrow, if it ever stops raining.
She ate the pink-eyed pup. I guess she wasn't catching up fast enough for her. To be fair, I wasn't pleased with how wrinkly she was, either.
I'm a fan of fluffball stage with longhairs. I'm hoping it's that much more awesome with texel.

Re: Unexpected Splashed Texel Litter!
The PE bub could have been Fuzzy. I've had a couple of them pop up from the Tri buck's line.
Re: Unexpected Splashed Texel Litter!
I could save some of these to send down to Rena and Thistle, they are looking for tris. If no one wants them. I am sorry again about the confusion on my end, it's not an excuse but...I was so flustered with the extra Spare Bathroom Mice and got confused.

Re: Unexpected Splashed Texel Litter!
No flusteration, Tiny! I got the buck intending to breed texel and splashed into the longhair satin Siamese line, so having him produce on a related doe is no harm to me. I'm happy to have them about. That said, I know I (or we) owe Rena, so if she doesn't mind the texel and the fox, and assuming the tri girlie makes it...

And Bourbon:
She seems less than pleased to be watching the sun set. Admittedly, my bedroom is a little dark, and that's where she's been living.

Re: Unexpected Splashed Texel Litter!
Huh. The comment about the other bub having been a fuzzy may have been portentous. While the tri baby and the splashier baby fur up and get chunky, the third baby has decided that fur just isn't going to happen for her. She's covered in slightly curly velveteen, instead. Also, the tri baby is apparently also satin? Do these carry satin? 'Cause she will not photograph with flash. Sorry about that, but flash was necessary, as these were taken in the bedroom.
Scrawny little wrinkly fuzzy girl. I shouldn't laugh at her, but next to her sisters, she just looks sad! I'm sure she'll be lovely when she grows up, though.

The parents are, yes!
The tri baby was dead when I woke up this morning. No injuries, just dead. Such a bummer, but it leaves the fuzzy and the texel.

Oh no! So sorry to hear! If you haven't found out already, yes to the satin. Hope the other two do well for you.
