onset of brindle obesity
At what age can you tell an A^y brindle will be obese? I know that they can range from morbidly obese to slightly stout. Does the age at which obesity sets in indicate how severely affected the mouse will be? Do A^y brindles ever NOT get fat?
Mrs. Beach, this one is for you!

Re: onset of brindle obesity
Sometimes obesity starts to show when they are still babies. Guaranteed, obesity will start to develop by three months of age. Madmouse, have either of the orangeybrowns become obese? I wondered last night if they were just really undermarked, sooty-ish brindles.
Re: onset of brindle obesity
Nope, Mrs. Beach, the orangeybrowns are still pretty sleek. I am asking this question because I have a mouse who was thought to be a splashed brindle, but at 4mos she seems much too streamlined to be A^y. I will post photos of her on a new thread so the forum folks can help me identify her color.

Yeah, interesting. I bought some what apparently were either brindle tris or RY tris at The Animal Exchange and tried fattening them up with seeds to no avail. I have concluded they are RY. Anyone want some pet type angora RY tricolors? One buck and two does. Oh, the buck is standard satin. First time I've ever seen tris in The Animal Exchanges gene pool.

I am glad I checked here, I was going to email you Ann about Indie and Stry. My girls are FAT, I'll have to get pictures of them. They are some solid mice, LOL

Cheri, you said you fed them a lot of treats. Don't do that to brindles! I forgot to tell you. Brindles never lose the weight, until they thin out as senior citizens. You need to keep your brindles lean on just lab blocks and cut vegetables. If they gain any weight it will never go away. Of course, fat brindles are very squishy, snuggly, and strokable, happy little critters!
Re: onset of brindle obesity
Are you meaning Avy when you type Ay? Ay is lethal yellow, or dominant red, as differentiated from Avy which is viable yellow, or American brindle.

I was assuming she made a typo and meant A^vy, but it's a good question.
Re: onset of brindle obesity
Laigaie: Yes! You are right. I have been forgetting there's a "v" in A^vy. Thanks for reminding me.

No they dont get as much as the other's, I've cut them back to healthy stuff. Stry isn't bad, but Indie is a blimp! LOL Poor Midnight gets taken out and treats alone. That mouse is so spoiled! LOL

Re: onset of brindle obesity
Their parents were both brindles and it's possible that Indie is a blimp because she's A^vy/A^vy and Stry is only A^vy/a. Their birthdates, BTW, are 5/2/12. Peds will be completed and scanned and emailed to you soon.
