Anyone near Doswell, VA?
Hi!
I recently booked a flight to Richmond, Virginia for December 21st and will be staying for about ten days. Am I right in thinking I can buy a mouse down there and bring it back? All those amazing genes are south of the border and I'm reluctant to continue with my line without bringing in new, trusted mice.
I checked the Canadian Food Inspection Agency site and it seems like it's allowed...I'm just not sure if a) anyone from here is in the area and b) what paperwork/fees would be involved. And of course the practical issue of how.

Re: Anyone near Doswell, VA?
I so wish I were closer to VA- I'm going to have two BEW texel boys ready soon!
Re: Anyone near Doswell, VA?
Bah, sorry! I am in NY BUT, I think I've offered in the past. If you'd like to meet me by the rainbow bridge crossing and bring them over that way, let me know.
I don't have anything available but RF is "coming up" and could potentially PU for you.

Seafolly! I live about two hours' drive north of Richmond in Silver Spring, MD, and have some mice available. What are you looking for?
I think your biggest problem would be bringing the mouse or mice on the plane. You need to check with the airline on that.

Thanks so much everyone! Candycorn offered to meet me in VA which is amazing, assuming I could find someone nearby like Ann.
Yes, the biggest snag is the airline. So far it seems like all things are a go BUT the mouse would count as the sole carry-on. Unfortunately I'm bringing down my DSLR (I'm a photographer so that's the source of my income) and my laptop and cannot check those so I may be out of luck due to that carry on limit!
I truly appreciate the offers though! And BEW texel? Be still my heart!

Eep I was there a few weeks ago! I'll have to look into bringing them over by car. Surely if the airline is flexible with domestic mice (not requiring papers) a car would be easier. I'm so happy this isn't my only shot.

Seafolly, just make sure the airline knows you have a live animal in your only carry on. It seems to be important to them! (Unless you don't want them to know.)
Re: Anyone near Doswell, VA?
How would you sneak a mouse in a carry-on. Surely they'd know when it goes through that machine.
I would think that going over the border via car would be cheaper and easier

Re: Anyone near Doswell, VA?
It wouldn't have been sneaking - from what I understand the mouse carrier would be the only carry on allowed. aka I would have had to check my laptop and DSLR which was simply not worth the risk. I'll have to sort out another trip to Niagra.

Seafolly, you need to call the airline ahead of time and ask if it's OK to take live animals on board. Many airlines have rules against this.
Re: Anyone near Doswell, VA?
Air Canada was okay with it. They just limited the animal as your only carry on. And I did not want to part with my laptop or DSLR.
