Black Eyed Cream vs Black Eyed White
Hi Guys!! I have some questions for all of you and I hope you can help me out.
I am rebuilding the mousery, as most of you know, and wanted to add Black Eyed Cream to my breeding lines. Problem is..... I do not know much about the gene at all actually. I was looking at some beautiful pictures and they actually look almost identical to a Black Eyed White mouse except that they were more milky white. What is the difference between a BEW and a BEC? What are their genetic codes and is there a way to produce a black eyed cream without actually having one in the mousery? Any information would be greatly apreciated and I would LOVE to see a comparision picture between the two if someone could whip one up.

Re: Black Eyed Cream vs Black Eyed White
The trouble with cream is that you're going to need the Ay gene, which is hard to find.
Black eyed cream is Ay/- cch/cch
Pink eyed cream is Ay/- cch/cch p/p
Ivory (black eyed white) is a/a ce/c
You can also make BEW with. . .
s/s (bred to be high white)
W/w s/s
Creams, in the UMC are suppose to be a light pastel shade of yellow.
Here is the standard:
Cream - Very pale, off white. Should have a slight
yellow hue, similar to rich heavy dairy cream. Eyes any colour
Genotype - Ay/* cch/cch
This is our cream photo:
And here is an Ivory (BEW) which according to the UMC should be:
Ivory - Pale white with a very light gray hue. Eyed
are black.
a/a ce/c
And for the UMC 'white' is a self colour, which can be black, ruby, or pink eyed, but the goal is to have the whitest, cleanest coat possible. Which can be bred from Ivory, piebald, or variegated/piebald.

Thanks Casey! Again with that darn Ay gene. Lol. And I agree- those pics are beautiful and helpful.
Re: Black Eyed Cream vs Black Eyed White
I would -think- you could probably make a cream colour with another gene other than Ay. Maybe a really dark red Avy or a reeeeeally dark e/e with cch/cch might do the trick. You could sure as hell try it!
I'm sure there are also other genes that in combination will produce an off-white yellowish mouse, it's just a matter of putting them together.
