Mouse Labor Questions
Hey,
I am new mice and a mouse I got 21 days ago turned out to be pregnant. I can know for a fact she is pregnant as I can feel the babies, I was just wondering how I tell when she is gone into labor or when she will have them.
Thanks,
Hannah.

Re: Mouse Labor Questions
You probably won't even notice when she has them. It only takes them a few minutes, around 20, to have an entire litter.

But how do we tell when she is about to? My friend (who is also on here) and I have been watching all day.

Wow. Thanks for that info. We have decided to let it happen when it happens and quit messing with her. This is our first time with a pregnant doe if yall havnt noticed so we are very excited. I brought the doe over to my house to mouse-sit so I will still probably be sleeping in the bed in the mouse room tonight.

Re: Mouse Labor Questions
Is the mouse in distress? Is she bleeding excessively? Is there any vaginal drainage?
Honestly I would put her cage in a dark quiet room and leave her be. Do not check on her more than 2-3 times a day. She needs peace and quiet, I understand the excitement but you may be inadvertently causing her stress.

Re: Mouse Labor Questions
No, breeding her while pregnant can stress her out, and cause a lot of problems. Just leave her alone and quiet, and she'll probably have them either very late at night, or very early in the morning, when -she- is ready.

That is the same thing with rabbits. As soon as you go to sleep, they have babies. Miss Ditzy Doo is now in in a nice quiet room.

Yes- keep her in a nice dark and quiet room. And no rebreeding when she is pregnant. It will seriously stress her out. She will have them when she is ready.

Same thing happened to us, times two! LOL
Just let her go unless you think something is wrong with her. Our first mouse had her babies overnight and we didn't even know it.

Re: Mouse Labor Questions
Cool Thank you sooo much! I decided to leave her in a dark quite room and set up a video camera I think that will be less stressfull.

Re: Mouse Labor Questions
I do not think a vid camera would be a good idea. The spot light from the camera may stress her and / or heat the cage. Both are not good ideas. Also- having something big looming over the cage may mimic a prey bird waiting to swoop down at any minute. Again the stress factor. I know you want to see her give birth but just leaving her be us truly the best option. Even my cat had her kittens the other day after I already left for work for the night.
Re: Mouse Labor Questions
OK thank you. I have the video camra set up about 5 feet away from the cage in a dark room zoomed in and on night vission do think that will bother her. ps it makes no noise.

Re: Mouse Labor Questions
Just let her be for a while. if she stresses she can hold then in longer causing lots of problems.
Re: Mouse Labor Questions
Yeah I know I am refraining my self from looking. The only time I looked was when i got up this morning. Would it be too much stress if i checked on her at 1:00?

Re: Mouse Labor Questions
I would just leave her be. She is still new in your house and due to that- very stressed to begin with.
