Mousery Names
How did you choose your mousery name?
I'm going through the steps to pick mine now so I can get a website set up while I'm still learning the genetics of it all. I have a lot of people who gave me some good name suggestions but am curious to hear how everyone came up with their mousery names?
So, what is your mousery name and where did it come from?

Mine just sort of popped into my head, it was the first one I thought of, honestly. I love evolution and genetics, and biology, and was trying to think of a sciency sounding sort of name. Eccentric Evolution just materialized, and off i went!

I'm a big Tolkien fan and wanted something relating to that. I chose Thistle Brook (a stream in the Shire) because it isn't glaringly obvious that it is Tolkien-related, and in my opinion it kind of conjures a nice mental image.
Re: Mousery Names
I didn't want to have a "mousery", but knew I had to choose a title. I wanted to breed beige brindles like my favorite mouse of all time, Mrs. Beach. If I did that, I would have...a brindle empire--Mrs. Beach's Brindle Empire (which is not a mousery).
Re: Mousery Names
I chose Hemlock Stud purely because there are a bunch of hemlock trees near where I live. And I prefer 'stud' over 'mousery'.

Re: Mousery Names
I picked Zia because I grew up in New Mexico (which I absolutely loved) and the Zia symbol is on the state flag. It has always been an icon I felt drawn to.
The symbol represents the sun and the repeating of 4 represents the many things in life that come in 4s, such as season, cardinal directions, stages of life, etc. I thought it also applied to mice, since the four things I breed for are health, type, temperament, and color. And ZIA is just three letters, so it can be used as my prefix as well.
Another consideration is that my primary variety I love is black tans, and they remind me of the desert sunsets.
I put way more thought into my name than necessary. lol

Re: Mousery Names
Pubbles: I think you're talking about the names of your mice. Your mousery is the place where you keep your mice, and your breeding stock or collection of mice.

Re: Mousery Names
I remembered this thread the other day while I was adopting out a pet mouse to a new owner. She asked why the mousery was Rainbow Island Mousery.
While I live in Fayetteville now, and grew up in Conway, I actually spent the first two weeks of my life and all my best summers/holidays in Rainbow Island. It's a little bitty island with fewer than 50 houses in the middle of the Little Red River, sort of North-Central Arkansas. Most of those are people's second homes or summer places or fishing shacks, but my grandparents lived there, and now my mother has retired to our house there. I figure that no matter where I move, or where I live, that'll always be home.
