Want thicker fur on my texels. How???

I need thicker fur on texels. Should I breed a standard to my texels or maybe a longhair? If I want to add more curly, I know I can breed my best to each other but, are than any other options? Robin

pretty much the same....just only breed the ones with the thickest, curliest coats.

Should I breed in a standard or longhair also to help my lines?

You always want to bring in new blood at some point anyway. You could get a nice texel from another breeder or you can breed them to an angora OR a standard. Angora will lengthen the coat. Standard - all depends on the mice.

Standard *could* make the coat worse b/c you don't know what modifiers for angora and rex are hidden behind the standard coat. Personally, unless you can find a really spectacular rex, angora, or texel (from a line that consistently produced better animals than what you have), I would work on improving the line you have...you don't want to bring in new genes too often (unless you have real problems you need to work out) or you won't be increasing the concentration of modifying genes that will really improve the line...and could introduce genes that will make things harder.
