Popularity is always a factor on any website of couse. Cause if "a" posts topics with amazing mice...everyone will always look and respond. If your topics are boring or answered a million times already, then people arent as interested and wont look.
Bad thread titles will also kill you. Writing "help" or "wow" will get less looks that topics likr "momma mouse missing leg, and was alone (pics)".

Also depends on who is on at a particular point in time. Also- if someone is not comfortable responding, or does not know the answer to a question, they will not respond and thus resulting in less responses.

Another factor is being new too I think :-) It was like that for me also when I was on the other board.

And like CandyCorn said, is also great advice.

Part of the problem also could be that you never posted an introduction, so people don't know how to respond to you based on the fact that they don't know you!
