My Weird Litter Empty My Weird Litter

Post by kawmice Tue Apr 03, 2012 5:35 am

Ok....... I have some questions on these litters. I did get alot answered on FMB a bit ago but I still have some questions and a new litter to discuss. lol

ok, so I bred a RY Standard doe to a Black Splashed buck. The Buck is as far as I know a Spl/Spl and some form of c dilute of corse since he is splashed. The doe came from a new breeder and it was questionable weather she was a e/e or a a^vy. I believe as well as a few others, that she is an e/e.

Here is what I got:
born 1/28 - total 8 pups
4 RY Does and 2 RY Bucks
1 Black Tan Buck
1 Umbrous Agouti Buck
One RY Buck was a satin

Ok...... so......
this tells me that mom carries A and is a tan since dad had no tan at all. Also tells me that both are satin carriers since I had one satin pup. What about umbrous??

parents genetic codes would be what?? I came up with this but could be totally wrong since I am still learning genetics -

Pumpkin (dam)- e/e a/at A/A sa/sa or is it e/e A/at sa/sa or something else??
Nike (sire) - Spl/Spl sa/sa

what would the pups be?
RY does and bucks - e/e a/at (or A/at) sa/sa ????????
RY satin buck - e/e a/at (or A/at) Sa/Sa ???????????
Black Tan - a/at sa/sa and what ????
Umbrous Agouti, not tan - A/A sa/sa ???????????????

My bucks matured earlier then normal and one of them (no clue who) impregnanted one of the RY does
They were born on 3/29 so must have been impregnanted just a few days after 4 weeks..... so sad. At least they are big and healthy and all are doing great. She had 7 pups who I did not cull due to the fact I want to see what these guys may carry.

So far as I can tell I have mostly black tan and one lighter color who may be agouti. Looks like I will have 1-2 RY as well. At this point I am unsure if any are satin, but it does not look likely, so my RY Satin is not the sire. I do have one very light pup with BE. I have to wait to see what he is. He could be a RY, but I am unsure.
Tell me what all of you think..................

I am keeping one of the black tans and the rest will most likely be available at fest. I have not decided yet since they are so young.

Satin is recessive and sa/sa...Sa/* would be non-satin

The doe, if she is indeed e/e would be A/a^t e/e Sa/sa C/C
The buck would be a/a E/e Sa/sa c^?/c^? Spl/Spl

Are you 100% sure that the one bub is agouti and not an overmarked brindle?...

I am pretty possitive he is an agouti. I will take some recent pictutes and post them at some point today. Will also take pics of the new pups.

And bare with me- genetics are not my strong front but I am trying. Lol I apologize for all the questions and I know some will be dumb.

So....... A mouse that is a satin would be sa/sa and non-satin mouse who carries would be Sa/* right?

C/C is albino right? Why would mom have this gene? And you added an E/e for the buck. Does this mean he carries e/e but is not e/e himself ?

Thanks Casey! I am trying my hardest! I just feel pretty left out. Been breeding so long and only now really learning the actual genetics involved. But I am trying my best. Happy

Well I got a few pics but my moms computer is crapy and won't open them. Figures. Since she changed the password my computer will not go on the net. I am going to get to bed and when I get up I will try to figure it out. Can't wait to get my internet turned on at my place

Sa/sa would be satin carrier

C/C would be NON-c-diluted and not carrying any c-dilutes, since she didn't throw any diluted offspring. c/c is albino (lowercase) Uppercase letters are the dominant phenotype.

Thanks so much Stina!

You know- my boy looks agouti but he is getting so obese! I know agouti do not have the obesity gene. All his siblings are nicely sized so I know it is not my food mix.

Any thoughs on this? Maybe I do indeed have A^vy and not e/e? Dammit- my plans would have to change. Lol

I will try to get the pics up from work. He is Just such a dark mouse. You will see. He is also very squishy! Lol.

This may be a stupid question but is it possible that the dark Buck is a really dark RY?

There are no stupid questions. Happy

RY is a yellow color and does not come in another color. They can range in shades and even be "sooty" like the other pups pictured. But they will still be a shade of yellow with black eyes. Plus the dark buck is ticked. Even sooty RY are never ticked.

Really Casey?? I was afraid of that. So everyone else would be undermarked brindles and not Ry. Well dam............. Lol. Thanks soooo much for your input!!

Anyone else agree with him being a brindle or does anyone disagree???

Is he also satin?

Here's a photo of a brindle buck that I had, that looks almost identical to yours.

Oh wow. He does look like my boy!! Who btw, is still un named. Bad me. Lol.

As far as he being satin- he is ! But the weird thing- he never looked satin as a young pup! Granted he is only 9 weeks old roughly. His satin sheen came in recently. Very weird.

Where did your buck come from? Is there a breeder you can ask about his line?

Sad his mother came from a kid who was a new breeder. I really liked her. No ped or anything. Another breeder said she looked to be undermarked brindle but he said he had no brindles. But then again- he probably would not have known he did if they were undermarked brindle.

Dad- a black splashed from Stina.

I am entering him in the show so he will be there. And no, I didn't get a ped for the buck. Not that I remember anyway. I moved shortly after last fest when all hell broke lose. Lol.

Now I have more news on the New litter and I am stumped.

Looks like I have self black pied carriers (white tip tails), one who looks to be the same agouti as my boy, a BEW , possibly a black tan, a ry broken, and a lighter color that I have no clue about yet but looks like a blue. Ok- a BEW anf ry broken??!!! What the.... Most, if not all are satins.

I guess the broken probably came from my splashed buck. The pup, a buck, is definately a RY Broken. Just no sootyness, stripes, or ticking. So would this mean my orgional mother to the forst gen of babies had to be a RY and not an undermarked brindle? And this would mean that my agouti was indeed agouti and not brindle?? grrrr................. This litter is so weird! lol

I am probably culling the two black pied carriers today. Have not decided yet.
