Chillouarea Mousery
Hello,
my name is Roland, I am a German mousebreeder. I focus on showtype fancy mice in Tricolor, Merle and Rcessive Red and have been the one who introduced Splashed, Tricolor an Merle to Europe. Probably all mice with these colors in Germany, UK, France and the Netherlands go back to my lines. At the moment I try to improve the type of Merle and to breed typier Black Tan Merle and Recessive Red Merle.
I have about 600 Fancy Mice, 100 African Pygmies in agouti, blue and the newest variety, beige. There are about 50 Eurasian Pygmies too and about 100 Deermice. My latest project is to introduce new colors into deermice by hybridisation with Beach Mice and backcrossing the black and Pinkeyed offspring to deermice again and again until the color is established and the other Beachmice genes are lost. Deermice are only available in Agouti here so far and I want to have them in black and Pinkeyed, but with the cold hardiness of deermice. At the moment I have the F2 growing.
Have a look to my homepage to see my mice.

Welcome to the forum Roland! I've been wondering how you've been. The deer mice project sounds really fun. I have some here, but they are not breeding. We are looking into getting color mutations from a lab! There are 20+ mutations in deer mice, they're really neat!
Welcome!

Thanks for the warm welcome!
Rhasputin, I know that there are many color mutations of deermice in the US, see the following link: http://stkctr.biol.sc.edu/index.html
Unfortunately the stock is not available in the hands of private breeders, or do you have any of them now? Really? The idea to get some from the university is online since years, but reality differs... Did anyone ever manage to get one from the lab?
So I decided to go my own way...

Re: Chillouarea Mousery
We are in contact with them now. They seem hesitant to let them go, but I think they will work with us. I think that after we get the import mice in the next month or so from Europe, we are going to focus more heavily on getting the mice from the laboratory. I think if they see how many people are enthusiastic about breeding them, and exploring their genetics, they will be willing to work with us.

Re: Chillouarea Mousery
Aren't they? I really hope we can get them. I'm hoping to collect a list of people who are intersted, and maybe put together a large letter to send them to show how interested we are. I think their issue is that they hear from a lot of people who are not truely interested in getting mice from them. Tire kickers.

I think they only work together with other scientists, so it should be easier to order from an university address.
