Splashed or Variegated?
This little guy popped up from my Blue Standard buck and Black Standard doe. There is splash a bit further back in their pedigrees, so I assumed that the little guy was splashed, but he looks to be white with black "splashing"...
I'm still new to colors and variations and am learning every day, but a while back I asked the difference between splash and variegated and was told that the difference is that splash is color on color(dark on light) and variegated is color on black. So, wouldn't that make this bub Variegated and not Splash?
Right when I think I've finally got everything figured out my mice throw another odd baby into the mix.
Here are pics of the boy:

Re: Splashed or Variegated?
I would assume that's black on ivory but not sure because of the contrast. Hopefully someone else might know. He looks a little dehydrated too. I just lost a couple bubs to a malfunctioning water bottle, errr...

Re: Splashed or Variegated?
Definately a splashed. I will post a picture of a varigated mouse when I get to a computer. I used to breed them. A true Varigated will be more color plus they have a characteristic "blaze" on their forhead. My guys came from Holland/ germany. I know my description is not the best. It will come together when I post a picture. I am using my phone so it will have to wait till I get to work. Luckily my mouse pics ate on my flash drive and I have that with me most of the time. Lol.

Oh- I agree with Beth. He does look to be black on ivory. Lol. And yes, varigated is typically color on black. You get more of a "splashing" or mingling of colors. If I remember correctly ....... Painful neck is scrambling my brain as well. All I hear it saying is - ow- ow- ow...... lol

Thank you both! Kawmice, your mouse is gorgeous! I wish I could get my hands on some variegated. <3
Sadly, the little guy didn't make it.
