agouti with white undercoat
cimicifuga@hotmail.com (thapsus at TFM) had this turn up in her litter.
She says, "Litter of three, 2 bucks and 1 doe. The doe is normal agouti but the boys certainly are not. Sire of the litter is agouti (agouti-agouti) and dam is cinnamon (agouti-chocolate brindled). Here are the boys."
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v504/thapsus/hiiret/2012/valkoinenpohja.jpg
and another one,
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v504/thapsus/hiiret/2012/valkoinenpohja2.jpg
TFM thread is: http://forum.thefunmouse.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=21237&p=156633&hilit=agouti#p156633
Thapsus did not want to join another forum but gave me permission to post her pix and her email address.
Does anybody have an idea what causes this?

Re: agouti with white undercoat
Oh I saw this mouse on Facebook....no idea...lol
I don't feel like replying on FMB...lol but I don't think it could possibly be B^w...according to Jax B^w is dominant and a radiation induced mutation...its extraordinarily unlikely for a radiation induced mutation to have occured randomly....especially when it is a dominant allele, there are 2 offspring with the phenotype, and both parents have normal coloration.
It's definitely not silver gray.

Ditto!
I want one!!!
Re: agouti with white undercoat
The whiter one is definitely one seriously awesome mouse! Breeding back to mum, if at all possible, might produce more, and a new thing is always fun!

If she ends up with more of these, I would definitely be interested in adopting a few!

I have no idea if this is the gene, but it's worth a look.

Someone should be able to email them with photos, and they can likely put you in contact with a geneticist. I've done it before when I had questions about a mouse phenotype.

Hi. I'm the breeder of these two, couldn't not to join after all. Thanks to Mrs. Beach!
That is a great suggestion m137b!
Here are the boys now at six weeks of age.

Re: agouti with white undercoat
So, next litter of same kind. Same father in this and previous white underfur litters.
In this 3 weeks old litter 2 does have light underfur.

I'm so glad to hear this was reproduced! You mentioned that the father was the same. Are the two mothers related?

Re: agouti with white undercoat
Is there any chance that you could share their pedigrees with us? Maybe someone here in the US might be able to reproduce some similar little beauties!
Re: agouti with white undercoat
Yes mothers are related and also related to the father. Father is my best long haired agouti. He is 19 months old already and I've been trying to spread his genes to my lines as much as possible lately. Got some surprises while doing so.
There's however nothing special in their pedigrees. Some agouti, black and cinnamon. Only agouti in fathers pedigree as far as I know. There still is the possibility that the dad is the only one passing it. I must try pairing white based to each other when girls are ready to get pregnant in four months or so.
